Principal's Corner
Dear White Tiger Families,
Welcome to the 2025–2026 School Year at Yokota Middle School, a place of purpose, pride, and powerful possibilities! Whether you're returning to the Den or joining us for the very first time, please know how excited we are to welcome your family into a community that leads with heart, learns with grit, and R.O.A.R.s with pride.
I’m Dr. Quiana Obeng, affectionately known as “Dr. Q”, and I’m honored to serve as the principal of YKMS. This year is especially meaningful to me as Yokota Middle School is where my own children once walked these halls, and it’s now my privilege to help shape the next chapter of this school’s story. I come to you not only as a school leader, but as a partner, an advocate, and a fierce believer in the potential of our students and the power of our community.
Here in the Den, we understand that middle school is a transformative time, full of growth, discovery, and transition. Our goal is to create a nurturing and challenging environment where every student is seen, supported, and celebrated. Whether your child is new to middle school, moving up a grade, or preparing for high school, we are committed to helping them develop as independent, critical thinkers equipped with the confidence and skills needed for success.
Our school-wide motto sets the tone for the year ahead:
“In this Den, we lead with heart, learn with grit, and R.O.A.R. with pride.”
We’ll live this out through our R.O.A.R. Framework:
Responsible – making choices that reflect integrity and accountability
Organized – preparing and planning with purpose
Accepting – embracing and creating a culture of belonging
Resilient – showing courage, consistency, and bounce-back strength
This year, we will also deepen our impact through the 7 C’s of Lasting Impact:
Communication, Collaboration, Community, Culture, Climate, Connection, and Celebration. These guiding principles will help us create a school where excellence is expected, families are engaged, and joy is woven into the everyday.
Highlights for the Year Ahead:
- Our extracurricular programs continue to grow! Alongside running, basketball, and robotics clubs, we’re adding new sports and activities to keep students inspired and involved.
- Our student support team is here for the whole child—academic, social, emotional, and physical well-being. This includes our counselor, school psychologist, ASACS and MFLAC counselors, school nurse, SRO, and more.
- Our academic supports and electives are designed to meet every student where they are. We offer strategic literacy, math intervention, and enrichment, as well as CTE-aligned electives that open pathways to future careers.
Let’s Stay Connected:
We’re better and stronger together. Please keep an eye out for our Tiger Times Weekly important updates via Aspen. Be sure to follow us on our official social media platforms. Communication and partnership with our families will always be a top priority.
On behalf of our entire staff, thank you for trusting us with your most precious gift, your child. We look forward to a legendary year of learning, laughter, and leadership.
With pride and purpose,
Dr. Quiana Obeng (“Dr. Q”)
